Ivan Joseph, vice-president: student affairs, has announced his plans to retire on Feb. 2, 2024.

Joseph was appointed 51³ÉÈ˸£ÀûÍø’s vice-president: student affairs in 2020. He spearheaded a student affairs strategic plan to guide the vision of student experience at 51³ÉÈ˸£ÀûÍø and fostered strong relationships with the Students’ Union and Graduate Student Association.

“I have enjoyed the honour to serve students these many years,” said Joseph. “As a racialized leader in the higher education sector, I took tremendous pride in modeling and leading in a way that hopefully inspired others that looked like me to pursue their dreams. Thank you, 51³ÉÈ˸£ÀûÍø, for the opportunity to serve your community.”

Joseph’s career in higher education leadership spans more than 28 years. Prior to his leadership at 51³ÉÈ˸£ÀûÍø, he served as vice-provost, student affairs at Dalhousie University. Joseph also spent a decade as director of athletics at Toronto Metropolitan University and held several student affairs and a faculty position at Graceland University in Iowa. His career highlights include: winning a men's soccer national championship and helping to transform the reimagination of historic Maple Leaf Gardens at TMU, and creating numerous pathways for access and support for underrepresented students and staff at the universities he served.

“I want to thank Ivan for his leadership and commitment to 51³ÉÈ˸£ÀûÍø, especially to our students. He has been a valued member of the executive team, ensuring student success was at the forefront of decision making,” said Deborah MacLatchy, president and vice-chancellor.
